Nestled in the prestigious Sous-Gare neighborhood, just a short walk from Lake Geneva, this project embodies the meticulous renovation and revival of a 1913 apartment, preserving its historical essence while adapting it for modern living.
The design process was shaped by in-depth historical research into the building’s origins and a fruitful collaboration between architect and client, ensuring a respectful yet innovative transformation. Constructed during the expansion of Lausanne’s southern district, the building exhibits Art Nouveau elegance, characterized by intricate detailing and organic forms, with subtle influences of early 20th-century Eclecticism, marking a transition toward modernist architectural sensibilities.
A key aspect of this renovation was the close collaboration with local craftsmen, who contributed exceptional artistry to the project. Master glassmakers created unique stained glass masterpieces (vitraux), infusing the space with rich color and intricate patterns, while skilled woodworkers designed and crafted tailor-made wooden furniture, blending traditional techniques with contemporary functionality.
This renovation pays tribute to Lausanne’s architectural heritage, seamlessly blending historical craftsmanship with modern design, breathing new life into a timeless space while enhancing its functionality for today’s needs.
